How does insulated glass works?

Insulated glass is multi-layer glass glazing unit. It is usually made of two panes of glass, which were seperated by a sealed air space, about 6mm to 21mm of width. The glass could be consists of float glass, tempered glass, laminated glass, printed glass... double glazed insulated glass or triple glazed insulated glass. About colors, there are too many designs for conception, insulated glass is totally a custom sized glass product. 

So why we use insulated glass and how does it works?

The best part of insulated glass is that, it is sound resistance and heat insulation (enery saving). People use it for external curtain wall of modern buildings, it take both advantage of trend touch and functional. 

The principle of the insulating glass unit is based on the fact that unmoved air is a bad thermal conductor. The air space enclosed between the panes therefore forms a good heat insulating layer. As a result, the energy loss compared to a single glazing is significantly reduced. In addition, the pane on the peripheral side does not cool so much, thus reducing the room temperature. This is shown by the heat transfer coefficient (U-value): In the case of single glazing it is about 4.8 W / (m²K), whereas in modern insulating glazing it is <1.0 W / (m²K). The latest three-pane insulating glazing even achieve U values ​​of 0.5 W / (m²K). 

To use functional glass like low-E glass or coated reflective glass, will make the insulated glass units have even better performance of U value.

It is the same principle of sound control. The thicker air space used, the better performance to reduce sound transmission.
