Heat-strengthened (HS) Glass is a special building glass, and they also as referred as half tempered glass, please be sure to distinguish it from Heat Soak Test (HST) Glass and Tempered Glass (Full Tempered Glass/ Toughened Glass).

The production procedure of Heat Strengthen Glass is customized product and similar to Tempered Glass, but the time of heating and cooling cycle are longer than tempered glass. As HS glass have been treated by heating and cooling cycle, they are about twice as strong as annealed glass of the same thickness and configuration.

Heat-strengthened glass is not a safety glass product as defined by the various code organizations, due to when they are broken, the fragments are typically larger than those full tempered glass and initially may remain in the glazing opening. One of the biggest advantage is that half tempered glass don’t exit spontaneous explosion, but full tempered exists the risk of spontaneous explosion.

Please note that HS glass cannot be cut or drilled after heat-strengthening and any alterations such as edge grinding, sand blasting or acid etching can cause premature failure.
