Traditional IGUs fill the gap between glass panes with air or noble gases (like Argon), which still transfer heat. VIG creates a high-vacuum chamber between the panes, eliminating conductive and convective heat transfer. This allows VIG to achieve the thermal insulation performance of triple-glazing (U-value down to 0.4-0.6 W/m²·K) at only a fraction of the thickness and weight.
Those tiny dots are "support pillars" (or spacers). Because the inside of the glass is a high vacuum, atmospheric pressure would crush the two panes together.
